Minister announces funding opportunities for Ontario under the National Trade Corridor Fund
The quality of Canada’s transportation infrastructure and the efficiency of the country’s trade corridors is key to the success of Canadian firms in the global marketplace.
Vance Badawey, Member of Parliament for Niagara Centre, encourages all stakeholder to submit expressions of interest under the National Trade Corridors Fund for projects addressing transportation bottlenecks, vulnerabilities and congestion along Canada’s trade corridors in Ontario. The deadline for submissions is September 5, 2017.
The fund was recently launched by the Honourable Marc Garneau, Minister of Transport, as a core element of the Trade and Transportation Corridors Initiative. The fund will provide $2 billion over 11 years to strengthen Canada’s trade corridor infrastructure.
Eligible projects should support the fluidity of Canadian trade around the world, including at ports, airports (including those under Canada’s small National Airport System), roads, railways, intermodal facilities, bridges and border crossings. Money from the fund will be allocated based on merit and the project’s ability to contribute to
Canada’s continued success in trade and international commerce.
Provincial, territorial and municipal governments, Indigenous groups, not-for-profit and for-profit private-sector organizations, federal Crown Corporations, Canadian Port Authorities, and National Airport System Airport Authorities are all eligible to submit expressions of interest.

“Niagara is naturally aligned with national transportation strategies. With this announcement, it is critical that we continue to work in partnership to establish a long-term vision/strategy that can be financially leveraged between all levels of government and in partnership with the private sector.
By working together, we can strengthen our region, to become an innovative, economic, transportation/logistics-based leader that contributes to the nation’s overall economic strategy. As a border community, Niagara is connected to Canada’s national and international trade performance, and through strengthening our transportation assets, not only will it benefit the Niagara Region, but Canada as a whole.”

“Our government is investing in Canada’s economy by making improvements to our trade and transportation corridors. I encourage organizations and communities alike located in Canada’s 10 provinces and three territories to apply for funding under the National Trade Corridors Fund. New infrastructure projects can support trade, economic growth, and the creation of good middle-class jobs.”
