Member of Parliament for Niagara Centre

Vance Badawey

Local business owner and community advocate Vance Badawey began his career in public service as a City Councillor for the City of Port Colborne in 1994, at the time; he was the youngest member of council. Vance quickly climbed the ladder taking on more responsibilities and in 1997 was rewarded by the residents of Port Colborne and elected Mayor.

On top of his mayoral duties, Badawey did double-duty as a Regional Councillor on Niagara Regional Council. In 2003 Vance decided not to seek re-election. The draw of serving his home community was never far from his mind and in 2006 he was re-elected to the office of Mayor in Port Colborne and Regional Councillor for the Regional Municipality of Niagara.

During his tenure(s), he served on numerous agencies, boards and commissions including being a member of the Regional Municipality of Niagara Police Services Board from December 2000 to November 2003 as a Regional representative; and was subsequently re-appointed to the Police Services Board as a provincial representative in March of 2005 for a two-year term. After his mayoral election win in 2010, Vance’s regional council colleagues recognized his leadership and rewarded him with another term on the Police Services Board which he concluded in 2014.

In 2015, Vance was elected to represent the riding of Niagara Centre.  He currently sits as a member of the Standing Committee on Transport, Infrastructure and Communities, as well as the Standing Joint Committee for the Scrutiny of Regulations.  He is also a member of the Canada-United States Inter-Parliamentary Group, as well as a member of a number of caucuses, including Indigenous Caucus, Golden Horseshoe Caucus, and Rural Caucus.

Vance believes strongly that the achievements that we all enjoy are only accomplished when communities come together – and strive to achieve those goals as one voice. He looks forward to continuing to work with the many dedicated members of our community’s throughout the Niagara Centre Riding.

Vance and his extended family have lived and operated their family business in Port Colborne for over 50 years.
